The suspect, Richard Dale Croom, 52, allegedly used a shotgun and two handguns and first killed a car driver who was sitting in a parking lot in front of a store in a small rural town in northern Mississippi. When the police arrived at the shooting incident in front of the store, they received another report of a shooting a few kilometers away. According to the suspicion, the man went to his ex-wife’s house where he shot those present at the scene as well as his stepfather and fled.

After that, the police tried to track down a vehicle with a license plate that was at the scene of the shooting in front of the store, and arrived at the home of the suspect in the shooting events. There, the vehicle and the suspect were located when, to their astonishment, their stepfather and another person were found behind his house, lifeless.

The governor of Mississippi said that “the person responsible has been taken into custody. At this point, we believe he acted alone. His motive is still unknown. I will promise that we will do everything we can to help law enforcement investigate this incident.”

President Biden responded to the shocking shooting incident by saying: “Enough is enough, we are 48 days into 2023 and our nation has already suffered at least 73 mass shootings. We need gun law reform. This includes requiring background checks on all gun sales, fully closing a loophole in the law to keep out Guns out of the hands of people who engage in domestic violence, as well as requiring safe storage of guns. Gun homicide is an epidemic and Congress must act now.”
