At least one man has died and a woman has been injured this Saturday around 3:40 p.m. (local time) after a shooting inside a shopping center in Ocala, in the US state of Florida.
Police have received 911 calls about multiple shots fired inside the Paddock Mall, Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken explained in a press conference reported by CNN, adding that calls have described an “active shooter” scenarioso they responded with “a strong police presence.”
“Officers immediately entered the mall and ultimately discovered that this was not an active shooter situation,” said Balken, who explained that Officers have described the incident as a planned act of violence. The place has been evacuated and there is no longer a threat, the force reported in a Facebook post.
The boss has confirmed that an adult man has been found dead inside the shopping center due to gunshot wounds and Balken added that a woman has suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, for which she had to be transported to a hospital, but is expected to survive.
Police are still searching for the suspect.who has been described as a black man wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and a black mask over his face.
“Please avoid the area while police investigate,” officials warned in the Facebook post. In a tweet after the press conference, Ocala Police posted on the social network X, formerly Twitter, that they are conducting a “secondary sweep” of the mall.
