A shooting at a bar in central Mexico’s Guanajuato state left nine people dead and two others wounded.
An armed gang barged into a bar operating in Abacio El Alto last Wednesday around 9pm and opened fire on the occupants.
Five men and four women inside the bar were killed in the indiscriminate firing. 2 women were injured.
The condition of the injured women is now stable. But the attackers are yet to be identified. Officials said state and central security force units would be sent to the area where the shooting took place.
Gang violence has increased in recent years in Mexico’s industrial heartland of Guanajuato. Last month, 12 people were killed in a shooting at a bar in Irapuato.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who took office in 2018 as Mexico’s president, promised to reduce rampant gang violence in Mexico. However, such incidents continue to happen.
