In Shusha, within the framework of the VII International Music Festival “Kharybulbul”, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan from May 11 to 13, another colorful performance on Jydyr-Dyuzy was presented, Day.Az reports with reference to Trend.
The group Abbos (Uzbekistan), Aboubacar Sylla (Guinea) and the rhythm group Natiq led by People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Natig Shirinov showed their skills. Particularly striking were the joint performances of artists, shows of masters on percussion instruments, met with applause from the audience, who finally danced and gathered together to the Azerbaijani dance “Yalli”.
The head of the Abbos group, Abbos Kosimov: “I’m coming to brotherly Azerbaijan for the third time. Previously, the band performed at festivals in Baku and Sheki, but Shusha is especially beautiful. There is a wonderful aura and creative environment here. We have been to many countries around the world, but performing in Azerbaijan is special pleasure. Everything here is dear and close to our hearts and souls.”
African percussion master Abubakr Silla: “I’m coming to Azerbaijan for the first time and I was so impressed, I had great pleasure! I saw firsthand how important this festival is for your people, I learned a lot about Karabakh and Shusha. And I also saw the interest in national folklore and percussion instruments. I received an extraordinary charge of energy from Natig Shirinov’s group and the audience. The visit to Shusha will forever remain in my memory.”
People’s Artist, head of the Natig rhythm group Natig Shirinov: “I was at the first festival “Kharybyulubul” after the liberation of the city of Shusha from the occupiers, and the current event has special significance. Joy fills our hearts, people are returning to their homes in Karabakh, the owners This land is being revived, destroyed during the years of occupation by aggressors. Many foreign guests, musicians and soloists take part in the festival, who see our beautiful land with their own eyes, and my dream is to hold a festival of famous masters of percussion instruments here. Member of the Eurasian Association of Ethnic Designers, Doctor of Philosophy in art history Gulnara Khalilova: “The festival is a landmark event for our art, allowing us not only to show our musical traditions and international samples in all their glory, but also promotes national values. The Azerbaijani national costume was created as a result of long processes development of the material and spiritual culture of our people, reflecting ethnographic, historical, artistic features. Performances in Azerbaijani national clothes look very beautiful, giving concert programs a special charm.”
The festival takes place over three days in Shusha and Lachin. The city of Shusha has been declared the “Cultural Capital of the Islamic World” for 2024. Last November, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on measures in this regard. The Kharybulbul festival is held with the participation of famous masters of art and young talents, musicians and vocalists, mugam performers, classical and folk music, and choreographic groups. Among the participants are performers and creative groups from ISESCO member countries, along with Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Guinea, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Turkey.
The music festival “Kharybulbul”, named after the flower – the symbol of the city of Shusha, has been held since 1989. The festival was held in May of the same year in the village of Abdal Gyulably, Aghdam region, in connection with the 100th anniversary of the famous khanende, teacher, people’s artist Seyid Shushinsky, continued in Shusha and ended with a concert in Aghdam. Since 1990, the Kharybulbul festival has acquired international status. During the Karabakh conflict, the main concerts of the festival were held in Agdam. Some concerts of the festival were also held in Barda and Agjabedi. After the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation during the 44-day war, which ended in the country’s historic victory, the festival returned to Shusha again, and this year it expanded to also cover Lachin.
