Like so many others – and perhaps with even greater interest – Russian commentators followed minute by minute the plane’s descent to the island of Taiwan carrying the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. What if the unthinkable happened?
“In 15 minutes, we will know which is a great country. The United States or China? For once, it’s not about us.” wrote on his Telegram channel a certain Ramzan Kadyrov, the very facetious leader of the Republic of Chechnya known for his unconditional support for Vladimir Putin, accompanying his remarks with a wink.
The online newspaper Vzgliad, also known for his pro-Kremlin positions, paints a very informed – and rather apocalyptic – picture of the military forces involved, with two veritable naval air and ballistic armadas facing each other like dogs of fire.
