Around 150 people living in an illegal camp located in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille were evacuated this Monday, two days before the winter break, the prefecture said. They occupied land located within the perimeter of the Euroméditerranée program since June 20, 2022.
The occupation of the site has blocked the construction of 250 new housing units for almost a year and a half, including 70 social rental housing units, add the authorities. “A hotel shelter solution was offered to all occupants, and with no deadline for treatment. In total, 26 people accepted shelter (including 15 children in care),” details the press release from the prefecture, which specifies that the operation to evict this slum took place peacefully.
