The foldable mobile sector continues to be a hot topic with big brands like Samsung presiding over the market.
As you may have already seen, these smartphones come in two formats, the clamshell type with a vertical fold, which generally opens from top to bottom, like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and the Motorola Razr 40 and the book type, which folds horizontally like the Galaxy Z Fold and the Honor Magic V2.
With this in mind, it seems that some brands like Huawei are betting on new “types” of fold, apart from novelties of software and screen, and according to rumors, has already been working for some time on a smartphone with a triple folding screen – with two hinges -, which could make its debut in the second quarter of 2024.
This device, currently in development, promises to be a pioneer in the world of foldable mobile phones, taking innovation to a new level for Huawei users and promising to be more similar in size and functionality to tablets.
Huawei’s triple-folding smartphone could be launched in the second quarter of this year
The design of this novelty is certainly the most intriguing aspect of the project, with suggestions of an S or Z shape. Although the overall screen size is expected to be comparable to that of regular smartphones, Huawei could surprise with new features in the external design.
At the moment it is suggested that the size of the screen once folded would be similar, as mentioned above, to that of a normal smartphone, approximately 6.4 inches, but rumors point to the possibility of a 28:9 or 18:9 aspect ratio, which would allow a foldable 4:3 design.
However, since Trendforce They report that the mobile design may not be limited to just those types, as It could also be designed in a G shape. This means that both hinges would fold inwards.
Even though the foldable market has yet to fully catch on with users – according to TrendForce data, the existing volume of foldable shipments has yet to meet expectations, reaching only 15.7 million units, without surpassing the 16 million mark – the truth is that Huawei is now going all out by innovating in screens.
The production phase of this device is already underway, with tests of components and ultra-thin flexible glass screens. If everything goes as expected and there are no strategic or manufacturing delays on Huawei’s part, 2024 will end with the arrival of this novelty on the market.
