‘Chucho’ López, a Deportivo Río Cañas player, is the victim of the animal attack

Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortizbetter known as ‘Chucho’ López, has died in a tragic accident while bathing in a river in northwest Costa Rica after being attacked by a crocodile.
The Deportivo Río Cañas footballer had come to cool off in the Cañas River after exercising in the surrounding area, police confirmed to the AFP agency.
«He jumped from a bridge into the Cañas River. The crocodile sank him and it is not known if he drowned or died due to the pressure that the animal exerted on him”, specify the Costa Rican security forces, who had to work hard to carry out the operation to rescue the body.
The recovery of the corpse was not easy because the animal had tried to drag it to take it to its nest. The police were forced to shoot and kill the reptile in order to get hold of the footballer’s body.
The video has quickly gone viral on social media.

The teammates from Deportivo Río Cañas were very hurt by what happened.
«With deep pain we make public the death of our player Jesús López Ortiz (Chucho) may God enjoy. Rest in peace Chucho, we join the pain of his entire family. We will miss you. You take a piece of everyone, dear friend. Today is a very difficult day for everyone and we will remember you in the multiple facets of your sporting life as a coach, footballer and also as a father of family. You will always live in our hearts Chucho. Fly high,” they shared in a statement.
His funeral brought together dozens of fans from the region and the club, around a thousand according to the team on their social networks.
