This Monday’s Good News on Antena 3 Noticias features a Spanish company that will build the first manned spacecraft of Europe that it will transport goods and passengers. It will be called ‘Miura Avanti‘ and they presented it in Elche, Alicante.

The Spanish company “PLD Space” presented its strategic plan at the Beyond_ event, which took place in its new headquarters as part of the first anniversary of the successful launch of MIURA 1. The company took the opportunity to reveal the advanced state in which the MIURA 5 program is located, reaching the fundamental milestones that will allow it to start the launch campaign at the end of 2025.

In this presentation, PLD Space talked about its medium and long-term future projects: MIURA Next, its new family of large reusable launchers, and LINCE, the first private manned capsule in Europe. In this way they consolidate themselves as a point of reference in the sector at a global level. “We will be able to launch any type of payload on the marketoffering space transportation solutions to all needs,” underlined the company’s executive president, Ezequiel Sánchez.

After the successful flight of MIURA 1 on 7 October 2023, PLD Space continued to develop its technological and industrial capacity, achieving important milestones in the design and production of structures, propulsion technology or reuse systems, aspects that will be reflected and guided from the MIURA 5 launcher.

Over the past year, the company has made great strides with the development of MIURA 5. In this regard, the company’s CEO and co-founder, Raúl Torres, highlighted the TEPREL-C engine, the fourth generation of its engine of development. own, tested in flight with MIURA 1. It is a milestone that consolidates the company as one of the only three companies in Europe capable of developing liquid fuel engines.

“The TEPREL-C engine, with a thrust of 190 kN, is the heart of the MIURA 5, designed and developed 100% by PLD Space to offer reliability, stability and cost efficiency. Furthermore, this system incorporates a high-performance turbopump , which was also created by our company, demonstrating that we are capable of creating a technology within the reach of very few companies in the world,” said Raúl Torres.

The company also took the opportunity to present the new return and recovery system which will be applied to the MIURA 5 1.2 model, which consists of an advanced version of the launcher with greater in-orbit performance and a substantial increase in the payload. This system, which allows the rocket to land, will improve the operating costs and flight speed of the launcher.

Milestone in access to space

This news represents a milestone in access to space thanks to a new family of large launchers and the first private manned capsule in Europe. “We want to offer the market a complete space transportation capacity that covers 100% of flight needs,” PLD Space CEO and co-founder Raúl Torres said in his speech.

To cover this question now overlooked by the industry, the company presented its own new family of great pitchers MIURA Next, which is composed of MIURA Next, MIURA Next Heavy and NEXT Super Heavy, which have the capacity to put up to 53 tons into orbit.

The company plans to carry out the first flight of the MIURA Next in 2030. The developed technology will be transferred to the following models in the MIURA Next range. “MIURA Next Super Heavy will be one of the most powerful rockets in the world, capable of launching more than 16 tons to the Moon and 13 tons to Mars in its non-recoverable version, as well as 3.6 tons to the Moon and 2.4 tons to Mars in its recoverable version,” Torres said.
