The YUĞ State Theatre presented the premiere of the play “Panda”, staged based on the play by the Romanian-French writer Matei Višnek with an interesting and long title “The story of panda bears, told by a saxophonist who has a girlfriend in Frankfurt”, reports Day.Az.
Actors Ogtay Mekhtiev and Gunesh Tegin will play in the play, staged by Mikail Mikailov. Artist-director – Umai Gasanova, assistant director – Maryam Galandarova.
The main characters are He and She. It turns out that they woke up in the same bed. He doesn’t remember anything: neither how he met her, nor how he ended up in his apartment, but he remembers that he drank expensive wine in the evening. She refuses to give her name, but tells how she met him at the opening of some club, captivated by his saxophone playing. This is the beginning of a strange plot… The mysterious stranger is really surrounded by a veil of secrecy and the saxophonist decides to meet her more often. He invites her to visit and for nine nights in a row… he confesses, suffers, is blissful, is tormented, turns his soul inside out. And each night is different from the others. She changes images, appearing before him now as a frivolous woman, now as a philosopher, now as a harlequin, now as a judge… At first glance, this is a lyrical drama about a musician and a certain girl, but it turns out that this is simply a figment of the hero’s morbid imagination… The play is full of longing and regret about what did not happen, what this musician did not receive, lost on the run, about what he did not pay attention to, did not stop, kept running somewhere in some kind of vanity… The mysterious, romantic and at the same time mystical play by Matej Višňek develops according to other, elusive laws and conceals many meanings.
