A street in Ramat Hasharon will be named after the singer and artist Inbal Perlmutter. This is what the city council decided this week.

The Witches Band was a leading women’s band that operated in the 90s and stood out thanks to a clear feminist and LGBT statement and thanks to their unique musical style. The members of the band created a change in Israeli rock music and groundbreaking women’s music.

The committee took into account in its considerations the fact that Perlmutter, despite her death at the age of only 26, was a unique and influential creator in Israeli music and culture. Perlmutter’s influence continues to this day, when just this year a film about her life won first place at the Doc-Aviv festival: “Inbal Perlmutter: If It Ends”, which revealed unique materials from her diary and shed light on her work and the shadows that make it up.

The street will be located in the Neve Gan North neighborhood in a neighborhood that is currently being built. The street, which will be inaugurated in about a year, is part of the “disappearing and disappearing women” project, which emphasizes the commemoration of many special women who have not been commemorated. Along with Inbal Perlmutter, the following will also be commemorated: Gila Goldstein, who was an LGBT and transgender activist, Judy Even Chen, an actress, Anat Gov, Rama Messinger and others.

Avi Grover, Mayor of Ramat Hasharon: “Inbal Perlmutter’s story is a story of meteoric success and a terrible tragedy. A young woman who rose to fame at a very young age thanks to a huge and great talent, and defined a new generation of brave, feminist, and articulate musicians, and on the other hand, a young girl who had a hard time coping with success, and ultimately passed away at a young age We need to see both sides when we educate the youth, give them the confidence and the ability to succeed and keep them so that success will not cause them to fall hard like Inbal’s.”

Chairman of the Names Committee, Adv. Idan Lamdan: “The idea was brought up by committee member Tami Katz Zara who also mentioned Inbal’s bands that were all about women with a unique and prominent voice. If not for her surprising death at a young age, she would have been a prominent and influential figure in the Israeli rock world today. As the song until the next pleasure says: ‘And in a time of storm, my bad temper attacked me,
I will then open my window, on which I will ride at a gallop to the sky.’ During this stormy period, she was at the head of the protests for equality and the status of women, and it is a great honor for us to allow her commemoration here in the city.”
