Due to the coronavirus pandemic, masks have become one more element of our daily lives and are still today. Mandatory in hospitals or pharmacies.

But now, a study has revealed that the massive use of these elements may also have its contraindications and It can negatively affect our health.

The article, published in the magazine Helyonand carried out by German scientists, maintains that the use of masks can increase the risk of stillbirth, testicular dysfunction and cognitive decline in children.

A review of dozens of studies on face coverings suggests, according to the study, that they can cause mild carbon dioxide poisoning when used for long periods.

The German academics who carried out the research believe that the masks they create a dead space between the mouth and the mask, which traps the toxic gas.

The researchers say that the accumulation of CO2 in the bodies of pregnant women could cause complications to the fetus. In addition, they point out that CO2 also contributes to oxidative stress, which can affect cognition and cause testicular problems in men.

The researchers measured the CO2 concentration of the air behind the surgical masks worn by 15 healthy men. In 30 minutes, the CO2 concentration increased to approximately 2.8 to 3.2%.

This gas makes up about 0.04% of all inhaled air, for comparison, and experts believe that safe levels should be below 0.5% for an eight hour exposure.
