A substandard dam at Bayikulam; 13 lakhs wastage of government funds Dinamalar

by time news

Problem : Government funds have been wasted due to the damage of the barrage built at a cost of Rs. 13 lakh due to shoddy work on the way to Beikkulam panchayat D. Alankulam near Kadaladi taluk.

The barrage here was built in 2020. Less than two years later, the retaining wall of the reservoir has collapsed. Due to this, there is no way to store water during rainy season. Contractors are showing interest in building more barrages at many places in the Coastal Union. Generally, the project estimate for barrages ranges from Rs.7 lakh to Rs. 13 lakhs.

Due to the fact that the sand for building dams is taken from the area and built, many dams are soon damaged and are useless for agriculture. It is not possible to save the rain water. Therefore, the district administration should take steps to strengthen the embankment around the barrage, remove the oak trees and bring them to use, monitor substandard works and prevent government funds from being wasted.
