Earlier this week, police received a report of an incident of violence and aggravated assault by medical staff at Mount Scopus Hospital. Many police forces were called to the scene and an investigation was opened at the Shalem station in the Jerusalem district.
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident revealed that family members of a resident of the east of the city who died at the hospital (this is due to an overdose he took), arrived at the scene and started rioting, causing damage at the scene and attacking medical staff.
During an investigative activity by Shalem station investigators, a 48-year-old suspect, a resident of East Jerusalem, was recently located (Friday), and he was arrested, taken for questioning and brought to court today for a hearing to extend his detention. The investigation of the case is still ongoing and various actions are being taken to locate additional people involved.
The police said: “We take violence of any kind seriously, especially against medical teams that work to save lives. We will continue to act resolutely in the face of incidents of violence in society in general and against public employees in particular until the same criminals are involved. “
