More than a year ago, Trump left the White House, but legal disputes continue to haunt him. The National Archives sent a request to the Ministry of Justice in which it asked to check whether the former president did not deviate from the law.
Under the U.S. Presidential Records Act, presidents are required to hand over all documents and emails to the National Archives, but during the shift change Trump vehemently opposed handing over the documents to a committee investigating the Capitol assassination. Boxes containing official documents and delivered to his home in Florida.
The National Archives confirmed the news that they had found 15 boxes full of official documents at Trump’s Florida home, and returned them to the National Archives.
In some cases, documents were even discovered that Trump allegedly tore, when the archive staff was forced to paste the tears back. The documents that Trump took with him included, among other things, correspondence between Trump and North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un, and even the letter that Barack Obama left to Trump during the exchange of roles.
The National Archives and the Ministry of Justice did not respond to the report.
