A Tajik jihadist with Uzbek and Kyrgyz documents was arrested at the Rome airport

An active member of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist terrorist organization was detained in Rome, at Fiumicino Airport, the Italian police announced on Monday.

The 32-year-old man, a citizen of Tajikistan, had an international arrest warrant in force because he “joined the Islamic State and went to fight in Syria in 2014,” local authorities said.

The man, who came from Eindhoven in the Netherlands, was detained after landing and identified by his initials – SI.

According to the police, the man was born in 1992 and registered as a foreign fighter for the Islamic State in Syria in 2014.

The authorities did not say which country issued the warrant for his arrest, but they reported that the suspect had several false identities, such as Uzbek, Kyrgyz and Ukrainian identities. (MTI)
