A taste of Kenyan elections: Candidates clean public toilets to vote

Nairobi :

The presidential election, parliamentary general election and gubernatorial election will be held simultaneously in Kenya on the 9th.

The politicians of the country who are contesting in this election have given up their luxurious life during the election campaign. They have engaged in various activities to woo voters and buy votes.

In our country, we have heard news that a candidate prepared tea in a tea shop and put prota in a prota shop to attract voters.

But in Kenya they have gone one step further. There the candidates contesting the elections go to the smelly public toilets with a broom and a bucket and wash them clean. Candidates chop vegetables as they go door-to-door canvassing to woo women voters. Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Igathe (pictured) cleans public toilets and washes voters’ cars. His involvement in bartending in nightclubs has surprised voters.

But political analysts say that this publicity stunt by politicians is well known to the voters and they will not be impressed by these dramas.

Ann Wambui, a Nairobi voter, lamented, “Politicians don’t even know where the markets are until they start campaigning. We struggle to survive in this city. But people who buy things from expensive shops pretend to understand us when they want our votes.”

However, reports from Kenya show that politicians are adopting innovative strategies in the hunt for votes.
