The clothes were engulfed in flames within seconds, and the scene of the victim waking up engulfed in flames was reportedly captured in a video recorded at the scene.

The police arrived and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, but the woman died at the scene.

“What the police and firefighters saw was a person standing inside the train, engulfed in flames,” New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch explained at a press conference.

It is understood that the suspect lit the fire and then watched the victim burn on the platform bench. This man was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and paint-stained pants.

The suspect also encountered a police officer who was controlling the scene, but fled the scene wearing a hooded hat.

The police released a video of the suspect and offered a reward of 10,000 dollars (15 million won).

The suspect was arrested on the same day following a tip from a citizen. A citizen who was riding a train on 34th Street in Manhattan witnessed the incident and reported it to the police.

The suspect was identified as a migrant from Guatemala. The man had been detained by Border Patrol agents in Arizona in June 2018. There was no record of committing a crime in New York.

The police are investigating the detailed motive and circumstances of the crime.

Police said, “There was no interaction between the victim and the suspect. “I don’t think the two people knew each other,” he said.
