The thief was stealing household items and roaming around and then Salman made him confess his crime. In one of his old interviews, Salman narrated this incident and told that his mother was shocked. The surprising thing was that Salman also fed the thief because he was hungry and then called the police.
On Preity Zinta’s chat show ‘Up Close and Personal with PZ’, the actor narrated several stories of how people kept coming and going to his house for months. While some of them were friends, like photographer Avinash Gowariker, others were complete strangers who were not discovered until months had passed and they became a part of the family’s everyday life. But once, after a feast at Salman’s house, a novice thief decided to try his luck.
‘I woke up and saw a huge shadow hovering over us’
He said, ‘One night after a party, Arbaaz and I went back to our bedroom and fell asleep. Suddenly, I woke up and saw a huge shadow-like figure hovering over us, moving around strangely. I woke Arbaaz up and told him to be quiet. Just then, a man came out of that shadow and he didn’t look that big. He seemed to be dancing. I signalled Arbaaz that on the count of three we would jump on him. We managed to catch him and tied him up.’
Salman said that he began questioning the thief, following which he confessed that he was trying to steal for the first time. He was dancing because he was playing a walkman which he had stolen from the house. When Salman asked what he had taken, the thief gave him Rs 5, which he had in his childhood. Salman asked the thief if he had eaten and when the thief said he had not eaten, Salman gave him some food. He further said, ‘By then, my mother had come and she asked who is this man? I told her that he is a thief and she said- why are you feeding him?’
“The thief asked us to tie a knot on him”
Salman told the thief that he would have to call the police after dinner. He said, ‘It was around 6 in the morning and as we were about to take the thief to the police station, the thief suggested that instead of taking him there and getting bogged down with all the paperwork, we should tie him outside. The thief asked us to tie a knot on him and just as the police were arriving, he managed to slip away from there and run away.’
