/ A 21-year-old player named Caio Henrique was killed, and five other players were injured and burned after a thunderbolt struck the field during an amateur football match in the Brazilian Cup.
Caio Henrique was from the Gabeira team that faced Santo Antônio da Platina in the first stage of the Brazilian Cup.
A video circulating on social media, moments after the incident, showed footage of Jabera players falling and receiving help.
Caio Henrique received first aid on the field, but he died of his injury about two hours after he was struck by lightning.
Of the other five injured, one is still in serious condition.
Jose da Silva, mayor of the municipality of Santo Antônio da Platina, where the match was held, said in a statement that the municipality stands in solidarity with the victims, stressing that “every effort” has been made to provide the best possible care for the injured.
