Leila Carter, 27, from the city of Bristol in the UK says her three-year-old satellite has a rare eating disorder that causes him to eat things like stones or mud. Ms. Carter noticed last year that her son’s feces were white, but doctors could not find an explanation. The toddler was tested to see if he had autism, after also starting to eat paint from the front room walls in the house.
His mother said a blood test done in March confirmed the toddler was suffering from lead poisoning. Public health officials checked the lead levels at the property where they live and traces were found mostly in the front garden. It was covered with concrete to prevent the toddler from eating the contaminated mud, the Daily Mirror reported.
But the mother says Winnie continued to eat mud from the backyard, and a recent blood test showed that the lead levels in his blood had doubled. The mother contacted the Bristol City Council several times for assistance. The council says they have already taken some steps and the tests are ongoing.
Mum Ms Carter said: “My concern is in the backyard, once the park was a gas station so I think it might have something to do with it, I called the council many times to see if there was anything they could do with any support or help, but we had nothing” .
“It feels like no one is taking it seriously, the area manager on behalf of the council just did not respond, the media in the council was completely shocking, it hurts to know he is going through something like this and it feels like the council and public health are not taking it seriously.”
A Bristol City Council spokesman said: “Two samples were taken from the back garden and one from the front garden. The sample from the front garden found lead concentrations above the guiding criteria recognized in the country, after the findings were discovered. This area is in the abdomen. ” The investigation and examination continue.
