Maayan Orbach, a 10-year-old from Kfar Tapuh, had been collecting hundreds of thousands of bottles for years to raise funds for a Torah scroll in memory of his deceased baby brother, Carmel Yonatan. However, due to the recycling reform, Maayan was unable to dispose of them. In an effort to find a solution, the family reached out to recycling corporations, but had no luck. After sharing their story on social media, the Minister of Environmental Protection, Idit Silman, stepped in to help. She contacted the CEO of the recycling company “Cycle,” and a truck was sent to Maayan’s home to collect 28,000 bottles worth NIS 8,400. The goal is to continue collecting bottles to finance the Torah scroll that will be placed in the settlement’s synagogue in time for Maayan’s bar mitzvah in two and a half years.

Maayan Orbach, a 10-year-old boy from Kfar Tapuh, collected hundreds of thousands of bottles in recent years to finance a Torah scroll in memory of his baby brother, but got stuck with them due to the recycling reform. Minister Idit Silman heard about it, and saw to it that a truck full of bottles was sent to his house

Maayan Orbach, 10 years old from Kfar Tapuh, was engaged in a very big project: buying a Torah scroll in memory of his toddler brother, Carmel Yonatan, who died suddenly in his crib. To that end, he collected hundreds of thousands of bottles for recycling, but got stuck with the huge stock, with no one to take it from him, so Hanan Greenwood publishes in Israel today.

In an attempt to solve the problem, the family members asked the recycling corporations to come to the scene, but they answered in the negative, so with the help of a family friend, they uploaded the story to social media and added that they were looking for a creative solution.

The Minister of Environmental Protection, Idit Silman, was also exposed to this video, who decided to join the aid efforts. She turned to Kobi Der, CEO of the recycling company “Cycle”, and last week a truck arrived at Maayan’s house and took 28,000 of the bottles he had collected, which are worth about NIS 8,400.

Minister Silman said that “the story of Ma’ayan the sweet spring moved me especially. I was very happy that they were hired to solve the problem that had arisen, and I am waiting for the introduction of the exciting Torah book. I am sure that his brother Hekat will remember the blessing of Ma’ayan and the angels of the servant will come down to dance with him.”

Maayan and his family now continue to collect thousands more bottles. The long-awaited goal is a Torah scroll that will be placed in the synagogue in the settlement in preparation for Maayan’s bar mitzvah, in about two and a half years.
