Because of which, except for the current chairperson Fatima Jabeen, all the prospective candidates have dreamed of taking the reins of the municipal board with the help of their women. The people of Rampur will decide whose dream will come true on May 4. In the current election, 11 women have submitted their claim for the seat of Rampur Municipal Board Chairman. Among them, the current chairperson Fatima Jabin from Samajwadi Party, Dr. Musrat Mujeeb, wife of well-known Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Khan from BJP, Shema Arshad, wife of Provincial General Secretary Arshad Ali Khan Gaddu Advocate from Congress Party, well-known social personality from Aam Aadmi Party. Mamoon Shah Khan’s wife Sana Khan, Raees Ahmad Saifee’s daughter-in-law from Bahujan Samaj Party, Rafia Saifee, Asma Zahid Ansari from Rashtrawadi Jan Samaj Party, Shabana Bi, Neena Nusrat, Saba Shoaib, Mohsena Iqbal and Nazia as independent candidates. .
Since 1977, the politics of Rampur has been divided into two factions between Azam Khan’s fans and opponents. Like the Parliament and Assembly elections, the election of the Municipal Board Chairman is also revolving around the personality of the Samajwadi Party leader Muhammad Azam Khan. Because whoever is the candidate of the Samajwadi Party, the people of the city give their decision considering Azam Khan as the candidate. In this election too, the attitude of oppression and exploitation against Muslims, especially Azam Khan, by the BJP government is becoming an important defendant.
Political observers believe that there is a fierce competition between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party candidate to defeat Samajwadi Party candidate Fatima Jabin in this election. During the current 5-year tenure of Samajwadi Party candidate Fatima Jabin, the provincial government filed cases against her husband as a political revenge and took away his administrative and financial powers and continued to harass her. On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party has changed its strategy this time and fielded a Muslim woman, Dr. Musarat Mujeeb, the wife of the city’s well-known Dr. Tanveer Ahmed Khan, on the seat of the Municipal Board Chairman. She is a simple lady who graduated from Aligarh Muslim University. But they are facing a lot of resentment from the Muslims and the internal disorganization of the BJP is also making their way difficult. On the other hand, the magic of Aam Aadmi Party candidate Sana Khan is speaking to young voters. She got married a day before the nomination paper and her husband Mamoon Shah Khan is quite popular as a social personality among the people. Mamoon Shah Khan has also been the city president of the Congress Party and even today he has the patronage of Begum Noor Bano, a former Member of Parliament of the Congress Party. AAP candidate Sana Khan seems to be successful in uniting the anti-Azam Khan Muslim voters in the city with her to a large extent. If she succeeds in converting the crowd in her rallies into votes, the BJP’s strategy of fielding a Muslim candidate may prove to be a failure.
Congress Party candidate Shema Arshad and Bahujan Samaj Party’s Rafia Saifee are also trying hard to enter the contest. In the last election, Shema Arshad got only 10,000 votes as a Congress candidate and came fourth. This time too, there is no significant change in the situation. Bahujan Samaj Party’s Rafia Safi is an unknown name for whom it is not easy to get cadre votes of BSP. Apart from On, the other candidates seem to be limited only to the ballot paper.
