A tourist from Moscow dies in Dombai due to the descent of a glacier

In the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, as a result of the collapse of a part of the Alibek glacier in the village of Dombai at an altitude of 2200 meters, a group of six tourists from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnoyarsk Territory suffered. In this case, one person died, and two more were injured. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. According to the channel, an operational group of the Karachay local fire and rescue garrison, consisting of two people, as well as a rescue squad of the Dombai search and rescue unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, has already moved to the scene.

Hikes to the Alibek glacier are popular among tourists who come to Dombay, and are made along the side Alibek gorge from the alpine camp of the same name. In recent years, due to a strong climate warming and an increase in average temperatures, the glacier has greatly decreased in size and was unstable.
