Dheeraj and Roli, residents of Sarwatpur village in Lakhimpur Gheri, Uttar Pradesh, eloped to Lucknow on March 14th and got married in the Arya Samaj temple as their families did not approve of their relationship. They started living in a rented house in Eldeco Green, Madianv, Lucknow. However, just four days after their wedding, Dheeraj locked Roli in a room and hung himself in the hall. Roli rescued him and took him to the hospital, but he passed away after two days. Roli informed Dheeraj’s father of the incident and both families arrived at the hospital. Relatives of the deceased have accused Roli and her family of torturing him for marrying against their wishes.

Four days after the wedding, on March 18, Dheeraj suddenly locked his wife Roli in the room and committed suicide by hanging himself in the hall. Roli also says that seeing that, he broke the door and took Dheeraj down from the gallows and took him to the nearest hospital. But seeing the bad condition of Dheeraj in that hospital, they referred him to Balrampur Hospital. There he has been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit for two days. But after 2 days, Dheeraj died without treatment.
His wife Roli informed her father-in-law Sunil over the phone that Dheeraj had committed suicide. Then the relatives of both Dheeraj and Roli came to the hospital. Dheeraj’s relatives have alleged that daughter-in-law Roli and her family members tortured their son. They also said that his son died because he could not bear the torture.
It is said that Dheeraj’s brother-in-law was also attacked for supporting his love marriage, which left Dheeraj heartbroken. The police have registered a case and started investigation into the incident where the husband committed suicide in front of his wife within five days of their marriage.
