A TER transporting around 200 people found itself blocked on Sunday April 28 in the evening near Lyon, following a “slope subsidence” due to bad weather and will have to be evacuated, declared the SNCF, specifying that there was no “no injuries”.

The train “stopped on the tracks after hitting stones which slipped from an embankment”, said a spokesperson to Agence France-Presse. This subsidence is to be attributed to the heavy rains which fell throughout the day in the region, he said.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the town of Grigny, south of Lyon, on the Givors-Lyon line. Firefighters and SNCF personnel were dispatched to the site while waiting for another train to be sent bringing water and meal trays and buses to evacuate the passengers.

The train remained ” standing “ after the incident but is “gone off the rails” and will therefore have to be reinstalled and damage to the track is also «probable», according to the spokesperson. Rail traffic, interrupted between Givors and Lyon-Perrache following the incident, should therefore not resume on this route on Monday, according to him.
