A freight train “Canadian Pacific” derailed and caught fire in the state of Maine, USA, as a result of which three railway workers were slightly injured.
As noted, additional rail cars carrying hazardous materials did not derail. The informant added that these hazardous materials “are not subject to the risk” of leaking and igniting.
The disaster occurred when the train encountered a “track washout”. The erosion could have been caused by an accumulation of melting ice and debris.
