The Airports Authority signed a memorandum of understanding with two foreign companies, the Turkish company Terminal Yapi, and the English IRG International Group, to rehabilitate and operate Tripoli International Airport.

According to a statement by the authority on Facebook, the two companies submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transportation to form a coalition between them to finance the new Tripoli Airport project, based on their extensive experience in the field of investment in airports.

The memorandum aims to establish and define the technical and financial foundations that will be agreed upon between the parties to move forward with signing a final contract for the investment project, which will include financing infrastructure projects and rehabilitating and operating the airport, ensuring the development and improvement of the services provided and meeting the standards and requirements stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The signing of this memorandum and the further implementation of the project is considered an important step towards strengthening international cooperation, attracting foreign investments, the return of international airlines to resume their flights to and from Libya, and achieving sustainable development in the country’s aviation sector.

It is expected that this strategic cooperation with the coalition of the two companies will achieve positive results, as it will contribute to alleviating the burden on the state by financing the project from outside the general budget. It will also contribute to the localization of modern technologies and the transfer of knowledge and experience in the field of civil aviation.

The memorandum was signed by the head of the Airports Authority, Dr. Muhammad Bait al-Mal, Mr. Cenk Coskun, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish company, and Mr. Muhammad al-Sayyid Ibrahim, Director of Project Management at the British company.

The signing was attended by Dr. Kamel Al-Jatlawi, Member of the Supreme Council of State, Mr. Khaled Al-Suwaisi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transportation for Air Transport Affairs, and Engineer Mohamed Fasatawi, Assistant to the Head of the Authority, in addition to a number of directors of departments and offices in the Authority.
