A miniature corner has been created in the Khatai Art Center, where, along with works by modern Azerbaijani artists, examples of ancient schools of Qajar, Tabriz, Mughals, Gashgay, Herat, Isfahan and Samarkand are exhibited, Day.Az reports. The corner was created with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan, the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, and the Azerbaijan State Art Gallery.

“The Khatai Art Center has set itself the goal of creating a more diverse exhibition, constantly updating the corner, based on the principle of “one work of the artist”. For the sake of colorful and open to competition modern Azerbaijani miniature, we would like to see the work of each of our miniature artists. The Azerbaijani school of miniature, which originated and developed as a book illustration, began to form an artistic style in the middle of the 14th century based on the synthesis of graphics and painting. Even today, many of our artists create miniatures, and various events are held in this direction, including individual and group exhibitions,” said the director of the center, Zakhid Avazov.

Azerbaijani miniature art, which is an interesting and rich part of the art of the peoples of the Near and Middle East, occupies a special place in the history of world art and is included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. Miniature art is considered an integral part of the social and cultural identity of the societies of the states representing it. Each miniature work contributes to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, strengthens cultural ties between the past and the present and acts as a historical document with rich visual content reflecting traditional architecture, rituals, cultural events and many other areas of everyday life.
