“I would warn Mexico. If it continues to give shelter to drug traffickers, then it is an enemy of the United States. We will introduce a law by which certain drug cartels will be classified as foreign terrorist organizations, to create the conditions for the use of military force if it is necessary,” said Senator Lindsey Graham in an interview with Fox News, according to The Hill publication.
It is not clear what kind of legislation Senator Lindsey Graham will initiate. But any US military action in Mexico would require special authorization for the use of military force. And any project will have to be approved by a Congress that is currently divided, after which it should be promulgated by President Joseph Biden. Four American citizens were kidnapped in the Mexican city of Matamoros, after exchanges of fire between opposing groups. Two of them died, a Mexican official said on Tuesday. The other two American citizens were repatriated on Tuesday, according to BBC News. US authorities suspect that the Americans were mistaken for members of drug cartels.
