A van plunges into a river in Pakistan, killing at least eight people

At least eight people, including a child, have died and nine others have been injured this Friday when a van carrying tourists crashed into a ravine near the Babusar pass, in the Diamer district of Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. The coordinator of the Diamer district of the 1122 rescue service, Shaukat Riaz, has confirmed the death toll and explained that the accident occurred after the van collided with a caras reported by the newspaper ‘Pakistan Observer’.

The van was heading to the city of Gilgit and was carrying 16 tourists, according to the deputy superintendent of police for the city of Chilas, Wazir Liaqat. “After it fell into the ravine, the truck caught fire,” he added, causing all eight people to die from serious injuries. The injured, four women, four children and one man, have been transferred to the Chilas regional hospital.
