The eruption of one of the volcanoes of the Cumbre Vieja ridge began on the Spanish island of the Canary archipelago of La Palma, EFE reported.

It is noted that earthquakes were recorded on the island throughout the last week; in total, seismologists counted thousands of aftershocks. According to Reuters, earlier today the evacuation of a number of citizens began on the island after scientists warned of the threat of a volcanic eruption.

The last time an eruption at Cumbre Vieja was recorded in 1971, then it was the Tenegia volcano.
