A warm autumn and winter is predicted / Day

by times news cr

September is expected to be approximately 3.5 degrees warmer than the norm, or the 1991-2020 average. Also last year, the first month of autumn was 3.5 degrees warmer than usual, and with the monthly average temperature of +15.8 degrees, September last year became the warmest in the history of Latvian meteorological observations.

The following autumn and winter months are predicted to be one or two degrees warmer than normal. After a very dry September, precipitation will increase, especially along the coast, where warm seawater will increase the likelihood of heavy rain.

The current dry and summery warm weather is provided by a large anticyclone located in Russia. Forecasts show that the weather in the coming months will be mainly determined by Atlantic cyclones, which will bring warm and moist air from the ocean to Northern Europe.

Meteorologists remind us that the reliability of long-term forecasts is still low. The average monthly or seasonal temperature is predicted, as individual cold and heat waves cannot be predicted so far ahead.

According to the information collected by the Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology of Latvia, this year only January was colder than usual, the average temperature of the other months was higher than normal. If the remaining months of the year will be warm, the average temperature in 2024 is expected to be similar to 2020, when the record for the warmest year was broken with +8.76 degrees.
