Watan Al-Youm: Egyptian journalist Amr Adeeb announced that he had obtained Saudi citizenship by decision of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, which sparked a wave of controversy between praise and criticism on social media sites.
Adeeb said in the introduction to his program Al-Hekaya, on MBC Egypt, that he has been working for 30 years in the media field on Saudi channels, and that he received this honor with Saudi citizenship, in addition to his Egyptian citizenship.
He pointed out that he “hopes that it will be a bridge to consolidate relations between the two important pivotal countries in the region.” He added: “Egypt and Saudi Arabia agree on most issues in our region.”
The announcement sparked controversy on social media, with some criticizing the decision. One user of the “X” website wrote: “The reality is that whoever lived in it, was raised in it, learned in it, and experienced all the country’s events in it, deserves it. Amr Adeeb does not deserve it.”
While another wrote: “What are Amr Adeeb’s achievements??? Did the country benefit from it?
Others also praised the move, as a commentator wrote: “The great journalist Amr Adeeb deserves all the best.”
One person commented: “Amr Adeeb has become a Saudi and we do not allow any creature to touch him with a word. Whoever insults him is considered to have insulted the Saudi people.”
