- After the complaints of Dara Ekimova and Stanislava Armutlieva, the prosecutor’s office again requested that she be forcibly placed for treatment
- Experiences hallucinations or delusions, has a surge of energy, sleeps little and has chaotic thoughts, says psychiatrist Tsveta Tamanova
“Plovdiv resident Gergana Nedelcheva is aggressive towards famous people on the Internet because of crazy ideas in her head caused by so-called angry mania. The 27-year-old woman suffers from schizoaffective disorder of the manic type. In the acute phase of this condition, the patient can be dangerous in direct contact with the other.”
Psychologist Tsveta Tamanova explains this to “24 Chasa”.
The illness of the young woman who has been harassing and threatening to kill the singer Dara Ekimova for months, ties the hands of the authorities. They can’t detain her because of her diagnosis. In this particular case, they can confiscate her mobile devices and computers. After forced treatment under the Health Act, Gergana was in a psychiatric facility for one month, out of the maximum allowed three. She is then discharged from the hospital and once again fixated on her old targets. Among them is the influencer Yasmin Kirilova, but she also adds new ones – the performer Dara Ekimova, and for a few days now the producer Sanya Armutlieva with her daughter Alma.
On Thursday, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Plovdiv once again submitted to the court a request for forced treatment of Gergana in a psychiatric institution, as well as the appointment of a forensic psychiatric examination. This happened after two complaints from Dara Ekimova and Sanya Armutlieva. The Plovdiv District Court is about to schedule an open hearing on the case.
“I’ll find you participating and you’ll be brainwashed. I’ll enjoy cracking your skull and you’ll rot underground” are a small part of the threats, accompanied by cynicism and all sorts of insults, that the singer Dara receives online.
Psychologist Tamanova says that Gergana Nedelcheva is aggressive towards famous people because of delusional ideas that predetermine her behavior.
“She has symptoms of both orders: schizophrenic and affective,” she explains.
It is categorical that in such a state a person with manic schizoaffective disorder in an acute phase can be dangerous in direct contact with the other.
“Sequential and deliberate actions to carry out his threats are unlikely, as a fragmented chaotic thought cannot be effective and lead to the completion of certain planned actions,” the specialist explains.
According to experts, in schizoaffective disorder, the signs of schizophrenia and an affective disorder develop simultaneously during the same attack, that is, it is a combination of psychosis and an emotional disorder.
“The disorder can be depressive, manic or a mixed type, in which periods of mania and depression alternate – the psychologist explained to “24 Hours”. – Unlike schizophrenia, in schizoaffective disorder there is no such clear degradation of the personality. A person could live , without demonstrating in his behavior any severe deviations from the norm, until at one point he unlocked the disorder,” she also claims.
It adds that the sufferer of this disease experiences a combination of symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder. The manic type of schizoaffective disorder was also characterized by changes in the content of a person’s thinking.
“I mean that the thinking begins to contain aspects of greatness, wealth, which is connected with megalomaniac ideas of good and evil, of crime and punishment, which must be distributed in order to restore justice – the specialist clarifies. – It is possible in such a moment for the person to isolate himself, to be hidden behind social networks and therefore untouchable. To change his daily regime, because he feels a surge of powerful energy, to feel a sense of euphoria, which makes him hyperactive, to have impulsive and uncritical behavior. “There is an increase in purposeful activity, as well as a change in the speed of thinking. The patient has many ideas, solutions and possibilities. He seeks their realization, starting one or the other in complete chaos,” says Tamanova.
There was also a surge of energy, reduced need for sleep, hyperactivity. These symptoms were most evident in fully developed hypomanic states. In full mania, more and more severe exacerbations were observed.
Mania is a key component of this psychiatric disorder and is divided into three stages. The first is hypomania, the second is acute mania, and the third is delirium. Between the three, there are also mixed conditions, experts say.
The manic episodes that the sufferer enters can be mild, moderate or severe.
According to Tsveta Tamanova, anger mania is characterized by a pronounced feeling of anger, giving rise to aggression. It manifested itself suddenly and unprovoked, just like in the case of Gergana Nedelcheva.
“And all this is against a schizophrenic background, which implies speech interruptions and hallucinations, as a rule they are auditory – the psychologist claims. – I’m talking about hearing voices. In people with schizoaffective disorder of the manic type, this is quite possible.”
Studies by specialists in the field also indicate that the patient is also excessively involved in activities with a high probability of negative consequences. Among them is hypersexuality.
