A woman was attacked with a knife this Wednesday morning, on the Place d’Armes, in front of the cathedral of Metz. It was François Grosdidier, the mayor of the city, who announced it on his Facebook account.

The 46-year-old victim was stabbed three times on the public highway around 8 a.m. this morning, a police source told Le Parisien. She received blows to the left flank and was hospitalized. It is not known at this stage if his vital prognosis is engaged, specifies this source. The victim “received four or five stab wounds in the abdomen,” a member of the emergency services told AFP.

An open investigation

The perpetrator was arrested: he is a 47-year-old ex-partner. The couple would have met on a dating application, on social networks, according to our information. An investigation has been opened by the departmental security. The man was taken into custody and the Metz prosecutor’s office announced that it had opened an investigation for “attempted murder”.

“I am wholeheartedly with the victim, whom I ardently wish for the best recovery”, reacted this morning the mayor of Metz, specifying that the mother of this one was “a longtime friend”. “This tragedy reminds us once again of the horrible reality created by those who arrogate to themselves the right to dispose of the life and freedom of women,” added François Grosdidier, recalling that the attack occurred on March 8, international women’s rights day.

“The news is rather encouraging, with regard to his vital prognosis, we are reassured about the fatal outcome that we could fear”, announced to AFP, a little later in the morning, the mayor of the city. “An attempted murder in the city center is a serious event, an attempted femicide is a tragedy, and on International Women’s Day, this makes a greater impression and reminds us that the fight against violence against women is a constant struggle,” he added.
