The LAB union recalls that the regulations require the machinery to be adapted to eliminate any risk situation

A 47-year-old worker from Ermua died this Saturday after being trapped by a machine while working at the Antex Fibers company in Andoain, according to the LAB union. The events occurred at 1:00 p.m. in the Sorabilla neighborhood, when the worker, for unknown reasons, was trapped by the machine. The toilets who traveled to the place could only certify his death.

LAB announced that it will soon call mobilizations to protest the death. In a statement, the trade union center stated that “it is incomprehensible” that, from the point of view of occupational health, “still today a worker is injured or killed by entrapment in a machine.”

«Since the 1990s, occupational health regulations throughout Europe require the adaptation of machines and devices to eliminate any risk situation. If a machine offers this type of risk, it is because the employer does not comply with the regulations. There is no other possible reading,” the union said.

The central also criticized that the Basque Government “does not want to make the employers fulfill the responsibility that corresponds to them”, and assured that, “behind this, there is the political decision”. “In this way, if there are no radical changes, these fearsome data will be constantly repeated,” warned LAB, referring to fatal workplace accidents. For this reason, she made a call to participate in the mobilizations that she will convene soon.
