Every goal of Elizabeth II has always been a goal of Philip too, his love, his life. In the royal family, the duke was truly – for 99 years – the cornerstone of the construction of the Firm, the Royal Firm. Respected, loved, “he is the glue, the bond that holds the whole family together” as someone close to Buckingham Palace told me.

Elizabeth will now have to resign herself to not having him by her side – her Rock of all time – for the Platinum Jubilee 2022.
Close to the turn of the century, since the start of the health emergency, Philip and the Queen had made their own life choices – from the rigorous lockdown in Windsorat Christmas without a family, until the decision to get vaccinated immediately – a model.
So the queen and Philip spent the last year together at Windsor Castlewith few concessions to digressions: a parenthesis at Balmoral in Scotland, one at Sandringham, where for years Prince Philip had obtained a sort of buen retiro.
