Security forces in Lebanon arrested last week a 22-year-old ultra-orthodox American citizen, after discovering that he had recently been in Israel. He was released after more than two days of detention. This is what Roi Case reports in ‘Khan Haod’.

According to the report, that American young man in his twenties recently studied at a large yeshiva in Jerusalem. He arrived in Lebanon not through Israel, but through Cyprus and it seems that he planned to travel and continue even to the Kurdish region in Iraq.

Sources privy to the details told ‘Khan News’ that after he landed in Lebanon and arrived at his hotel, the security forces stopped him because at check-in it turned out that he had made the reservation from Israel. His passport had an Israeli stamp on it, which probably complicated matters even more. The authorities in Lebanon, it seems, arrested him on suspicion of being a spy or collaborator of Israel.

This affair has not yet been published in Lebanon and was dealt with quietly by American officials, including members of Congress, and a prominent Haredi businessman who intervened to bring about his release. Between Thursday and Friday the Lebanese released him and he flew from there to the Emirates. This is a story that could have ended very badly if not for the American intervention. ‘Khan Haodes’ contacted the same American citizen who was arrested in Lebanon, but he preferred not to address the issue.
