During the recent protests in Iran, a young man who tore down a poster of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly shot dead. In September, 21-year-old Irfan Risei tore down a picture of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during protests in Amol. BBC Persian quoted international media as saying that Irfan was killed by a close range shot. The report details that Irfan’s family was forced to respond that the protestors killed their son.

The authorities inform Irfan’s mother Farzana that Irfan has been admitted to the hospital after the protest. But Farsana responds that she had to wander for more than three hours to find where Irfan is. When Irfan was found, he was lying unconscious outside the operation theater with his clothes soaked in blood. The cause of Irfan’s death was the kidney and spleen ruptured by bullets lodged behind his body. The report details that this bullet hit Irfan only from a distance of five meters.

Irfan’s body was released to his family on the condition that the cremation should be done without any protests or noise. The report also explains that this was based on the fact that Irfan’s father was a person who participated in the Iran-Iraq war. Farzana’s post on Instagram two weeks ago lifted the veil on Irrfan’s death. 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died after being taken into custody by Iranian police for not wearing a proper headscarf. After this, many people, including women, took to the streets to protest. But Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iran’s President Ibrahim Raisi accused external forces, including the United States and Israel, who are not interested in the country’s progress, behind the protests.
