Interview with Tax Expert on AADE’s October Tax lottery
By the Time.news Editor
In a recent announcement, the Autonomous Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) disclosed the winners of its 36th tax lottery held on October 9th. To gain insight into this unique initiative, we spoke with tax expert Dr. Maria Konstantinou, who shares her thoughts on the implications and benefits of this lottery for taxpayers in Greece.
Q: Dr.Konstantinou, could you explain how the AADE tax lottery works and who can participate?
A: Certainly! The AADE tax lottery is a program designed to encourage electronic transactions among taxpayers. To participate, individuals must be residents in Greece, over 18, and possess a tax identification number. Participation is automatic for anyone who engages in electronic payments, such as using a card, and who has filed their income tax return for the previous year.
Q: What were the amounts distributed in the recent lottery, and how does this compare to previous lotteries?
A: In the recent draw, one lucky winner received €50,000, five winners took home €20,000 each, and a total of 556 taxpayers won cash prizes ranging from €1,000 to €5,000. This distribution reflects a substantial increase in prize amounts relative to older lotteries and highlights the government’s intention to incentivize compliance and boost participation in electronic transactions.
Q: What implications does this lottery have for consumer behaviour in Greece?
A: The lottery is an innovative approach to promote cashless transactions, which can enhance clarity and reduce tax evasion. By enticing citizens with the chance to win notable sums, the AADE motivates taxpayers to use electronic payment methods regularly. This shift is crucial for modernizing Greece’s tax system and aligning it with global standards.
Q: Can you elaborate on the eligibility criteria and the process for claiming prizes?
A: Absolutely. To be eligible, participants must have engaged in electronic transactions and filed their tax returns. Once winners are selected, they have three months to provide their bank account details thru the TAXISnet application to receive their winnings. This requirement emphasizes the need for taxpayers to remain proactive in their tax reporting and compliance.
Q: What advice would you give to taxpayers looking to increase their chances of winning in future lotteries?
A: My advice would be to ensure that you engage in electronic payments instead of cash transactions. Additionally, timely filing of your income tax returns is critical.Taxpayers should also monitor the official AADE website regularly for updates on lottery results and prior winners’ lists, as transparency is a key aspect of this initiative.
Q: how can interested readers stay informed about future lotteries and similar initiatives?
A: Readers can regularly check the AADE website for the latest updates on past and upcoming tax lotteries. Additionally, subscribing to financial newsletters can provide insights into the broader implications of such initiatives on the economy and personal finance practices in Greece.
As Dr. Konstantinou emphasizes, understanding these initiatives not onyl enhances taxpayer participation but also bolsters the overall integrity of the tax system in Greece.
