In order to provide services of all departments in Tamil Nadu, the plan to provide People ID to the people was featured in the 2013 Governor’s speech of the AIADMK government.

The user data collected for the welfare schemes implemented by the Tamil Nadu Government is collected by the concerned department. That is, the data is stored separately for Public Distribution Department, Revenue Department, Social Welfare Department. It is in this context that it planned to prepare the State Family Data Base with the data of all the families residing in Tamil Nadu.

These works will be done by the Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency under the Department of Information Technology and Digital Services. Tamil Nadu government has decided to provide people ID to every citizen like Aadhaar number in this scheme. People ID is 10 to 12 digit numbers.
