Aam Aadmi Party may get national party status even though it could not make the claimed gains in Gujarat elections. There are currently two criteria for getting National Party status. According to the first criteria, at least 11 Lok Sabha seats should be won in three states. However, Aam Aadmi has no Lok Sabha members now. According to the second criterion, state party status should be obtained in at least four states.

AAP is in power in Delhi and Punjab. It also has state party status in Goa. For state party status, it must win six percent of the vote or two seats in the assembly elections. If he does not get six percent of the votes, he should win three seats. In Gujarat, it got five seats and 13 percent votes and may get state party status.

With the Gujarat result, AAP may get national party status under the second criteria. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and party leader Manish Sisodia responded that the Aam Aadmi Party has secured the status of a national party.
