BOLZANO. A breakthrough is expected soon in the investigation into the mysterious death of Aaron Englthe 24-year-old woodcutter found half-decapitated in a meadow above Terento on the morning of August 18. A meeting of the Bolzano Prosecutor’s Office with the Parma RIS and the pathologist who performed the autopsy is expected in the next few days. The goal? To take stock of the investigation, from which nothing has emerged at the moment, and to begin to exclude the first leads.

Officially, no criminal hypothesis has been entered in the file, but the investigators continue to investigate as if it were a homicide. For various reasons: first of all, because the young man was probably not alone, but in the company of some friends, perhaps those who were on board with him in the taxi ride from Barbiano to Terento.

And then there is the position of the chainsaw: when the carabinieri arrived, it was found a good meter and a half away from the body. Which could make one think of a set-up: it could have been placed near Aaron Engl’s body to simulate an accident at work. But if there is one thing that is certain, it is that between 5 and 6 on Sunday 18 August, the young man was not working: he had just returned from a techno party that lasted several hours and was wearing the same “night out” outfit. That is, white sneakers and light blue jeans. The biggest news of the last few hours is that Aaron died exactly where he was found: at 1,600 meters above sea level, on a meadow, not far from the Raffalt farm.

And so it is ruled out that the body was moved after a crime committed elsewhere. Rumors and denials In the meantime, while the investigations continue, in Terento all anyone is talking about is Aaron. The unclear dynamics of the death of a 24-year-old that everyone knew has enveloped the town in a tense climate, where hypotheses, more or less plausible, are being outlined. In the past few days, rumors of an arrest had even spread, which were flatly denied by the Prosecutor’s Office. “We know everything because we heard it,” a resident explained to the microphones of “Pomeriggio Cinque,” “He came back from that party and started arguing with his father at night.”

This testimony given to a journalist will be provided by the same man – a lumberjack from Terento – also to the police to see if it is reliable. He himself spoke of an economic motive behind Aaron’s death: «They had already followed him with the car a few other times because he had debts with some people. He became a lumberjack and made a lot of investments. We are talking about figures around 200 thousand euros», concludes the man. We asked the mayor of Terento, Reinhold Weger, whether this rumor should be taken into consideration or not: «I can confirm that Aaron had spent a lot to buy the tractor and the tools. But his is a well-off family and I don’t think there were big money problems», underlines Weger, «That said, every testimony must be given directly to the investigators, in whom we have great trust so that they can give us answers. There are many rumors circulating in the village, including that of chainsaw challenges on social media, but they must be verified carefully».
