Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said the withdrawal from Kabul was a “sudden decision” as the Taliban captured Afghanistan.

The Taliban seized control of the country following the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan last August. Following the extraordinary situation that followed, many important leaders, military officers and people fled Afghanistan.

Ashraf Gani, the then president, escaped on a plane. He is currently seeking asylum in the United Arab Emirates and was recently interviewed by a popular private news agency. In it, he said the decision to leave Kabul was taken in 2 minutes.

He said he had decided to leave the country immediately after learning that the Taliban were advancing to capture Kabul, Afghanistan.

However, he said in an interview that he did not know where to go when he left the country and that his only intention at the time was to leave Kabul.
