During this major event in which several directors general, journalists and media experts took part, in addition to members of the Executive Council of the said Federation, the debates focused on two major themes broken down into panels, namely: “African press agencies: What strategies to face artificial intelligence (AI)? » and “fake news and fact-checking”.
At the end of this working meeting, the results of the FAAPA 2024 Grand Prix were announced in the “Dispatch”, “Photo” and “Video” categories.
Thus, the FAAPA Prize for best article (dispatch) was won by the Moroccan Press Agency (MAP), while the FAAPA Prize for best Video went to the Ivorian Press Agency (AIP) .
As for the FAAPA Prize for best photo, it was obtained by the Senegalese Press Agency (APS).
The prizes will be presented to the winners during the FAAPA General Assembly which will take place next January in Casablanca.
In a speech for the occasion, Ms. Oumou Barry Sana, vice-president of the FAAPA and Central Director of the Ivorian Press Agency, recalled that the meeting in Abidjan of the Executive Council of the FAAPA was marked by rich discussions and fruitful exchanges which, without a doubt, “will contribute to strengthening the foundations of our alliance and to advancing our profession”.
At the same time, Ms. Barry extended her congratulations to the winners of the FAAPA 2024 Grand Prix. “Your exceptional contributions demonstrate the quality and dynamism of our network. Your works inspire and enhance the prestige of our profession,” she said.
This feat, she continued, embodies what the FAAPA strives to promote: excellence, innovation and diversity in the processing of information, believing that through these awards “we celebrate not only the talent, but also the commitment and passion that drive our teams in each of our member countries.”
While saying she was honored to see Côte d’Ivoire host the work of this FAAPA meeting, she praised the constant support of the members of the FAAPA Executive Council which illustrates the importance of cooperation and solidarity between the African news agencies.
“Our African press agencies continue to play a crucial role in the development of African media,” she rejoiced, expressing the conviction of FAAPA members that the future of this African body is between “good hands” and that the decisions taken in Abidjan will strengthen its future actions.
Ms. Barry also did not fail to emphasize the need to continue to promote partnership and collaboration within the said Federation.
Created on October 14, 2014, the FAAPA has set itself the objectives of establishing a strategic partnership and developing professional relations between press agencies.
It also aims to contribute to the consolidation of the free flow of information and to strengthen cooperation and coordination at the level of regional and international forums.
