on January 21, President Abinader was unable to attend a mass commemorating the Day of Our Lady of altagracia at the Basilica of higüey. His absence was attributed to the onset of a flu virus.
Raquel Arbaje, the First Lady, provided further details regarding the president’s condition, explaining, “It has a virus gripal, which started last night with 38 and some fever. I was coughing. He didn’t let me sleep all night.” The term “virus gripal” refers to a flu-like virus.Arbaje’s description highlights the severity of the initial symptoms, which included a fever and persistent cough.
