At his home in Cadjèhoun, President Nicéphore Dieudonné Soglo received on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, the visit of a delegation of dignitaries, wise men and notables from the region of Abomey and Kétou. Led by His Majesty Koutchika and Dah Azon, the delegation came to express its gratitude to President Soglo for his works of peace and actions aimed at promoting dialogue within the framework of the release of certain detained opposition leaders.

Welcomed by President Nicéphore Soglo himself, the dignitaries reiterated their gratitude to their host for his numerous efforts for peace and national unity since he was appointed Prime Minister of the Transition in 1990 until Today. In turn, they rejoiced at the important role he has played for the social and political situation in Benin for all these years. This delegation, made up of around ten dignitaries, brought to the center of the discussions with President Soglo hot topics of the day, which seem important from their point of view in order to take his advice to better decide when the time comes. This concerns, among other things, the situation linked to the detention of certain political leaders of the opposition, the current bustle within the parliament newly installed in January after 4 years of monolithism within the hemicycle, the high cost of life, the controversy around the extent of births in Benin without forgetting the attacks of which President Soglo himself is the object as well as his family. There was also talk of repeated scandals in which certain institutions of the Republic are indexed.

Moved, President Soglo said he was pleasantly surprised by the interest of the dignitaries of Abomey and Kétou in his actions. To this end, he expressed his pride in receiving them and took advantage of their visit to recall his personal commitment, which will not be negotiated, despite the hardships. “We only have this land which is very dear to us. No sacrifice will be too great to defend this homeland,” he said after thanking his visitors for their support. Deploring the continued detention of some opposition leaders, President Soglo expressed his determination to continue his actions in favor of social peace and safeguarding the achievements of the revolution. It must be said that the dignitaries reflected together with President Soglo on how to find a happy ending to the situation of the political leaders of the opposition still detained. At the end of these exchanges, the dignitaries suggested that the former Head of State, Nicephore Soglo undertake a national tour of explanations of his disputes with the power in place so that he raises awareness among the different layers of the population on major national issues.
