At Moscow airports, about 90 flights were delayed or canceled amid snowfall. This is evidenced by the data of the service “Yandex. Schedule”.
So, at 18.06 Moscow time on January 10 at Vnukovo ten flights were delayed, two canceled, at Sheremetyevo 21 flights were delayed, 18 canceled. In addition, 33 flights to Domodedovo were delayed and three canceled.
Earlier that day, Yevgeny Tishkovets, a leading expert of the Phobos weather center, warned Muscovites about the snowfall on January 10th. He noted that the snowdrifts in Moscow will grow up to 35 centimeters.
On the eve of the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, noted that heavy snowfall before the working week in Moscow could cause a traffic collapse. According to him, the snowfalls are caused by the movement of warm, moisture-saturated air masses from the south, east of the Mediterranean Sea, from Asia Minor and from the Middle East.
On Sunday, heavy snowfall, promised by forecasters, began in Moscow and the Moscow region. Precipitation took place in the east and north-east of the capital, as well as in the north-west in the area of Skhodnya and Zelenograd. It was snowing in the city center, in particular, on Tverskoy Boulevard.
