Director Jiří Strach began filming the psychological drama Máma in the Brno studio of Czech Television. The story of a mentally retarded mother Lilian and her young daughter Malvína takes place in Czechoslovakia in the 1980s. The main roles will be played by Elizaveta Maximová, Sophia Šporclová and Valentýna Bečková.
The film tells the story of a mother who was destined to have a difficult life. In addition to mental retardation in puberty, she became the target of a traumatic attack. Now she lives with a lady who takes care of her and her little daughter Malvína.
A three-generation coexistence changes the death of the oldest. “The lives of Lilian and Malvína will thus turn 180 degrees. The drama intertwines two time planes, which are narrated to the audience by the small and subsequently adolescent Malvína,” says the spokeswoman for the Brno studio Hana Orošová.
Filming required quite demanding preparations, especially when choosing suitable locations, as the story takes place in the 20th century, but also because of working with the main female characters. “With the representative of the main role, Elizaveta Maximová, we completed consultations with psychiatrists and visits to the institute in order to better understand women who suffer from a similar disorder to our heroine,” describes Jiří Strach.
“It was not just about defining everything precisely, but feeling and trying to understand how such a person, to whom fate has not been very friendly, communicates with the environment, with himself, what are his feelings, gestures and how he actually lives,” he adds director.
The screenplay was written by Marek Epstein. “He mentioned it four years ago more or less by accident. I read it in one breath and with enthusiasm. It is actually a dusty pearl from a drawer, which will now reach the audience through a constellation of great actors, amazing locations and Jirko’s directorial enthusiasm,” she adds. creative producer Jiřina Budíková. Most recently, she collaborated with Jiří Strach on two series of the crime series Docent.
In September and October, the crew will film in Brno and the surrounding area, for example at the castle in Račice, in Ivančice or on the grounds of the Kroměříž psychiatric hospital. The audience will also see Dana Syslova, Pavel Kříž, Lenka Krobotová, Veronika Freimanová and Oldřich Navrátil in the film. Czech Television will broadcast the film next year.
